ZL Technologies is the king of bad communication, Expect to wait a week between each email you receive from them. It felt like they had no respect whatsoever for my time.
The interview process started with a self-guided math/skills assessment. This took about an hour, then I was called to set up a phone interview. I was told to prepare a few things to present during the interview. I had to discuss a company that I believe is good at marketing and give examples of why, then a company that is bad at marketing, and what I would do the fix it. Also, I was told to come up with a stance on a highly debated subject, and be able to defend it from criticisms before the interviewer even said them. This interview lasted for an hour, and the interviewer was extremely nice and easy to talk to. We didn't get through everything we were supposed to, so we set up another call. This call was pretty straight forward with the same interviewer. Very general questions. I was also given a list of 15 personality traits and told to rank them for myself. My answers to this were brought up multiple times in the rest of the interview process, so make sure you are able to have a good reasoning behind your highest and lowest ranked answers. Also during this second interview, I was given the math assessment again, this time while I was watched on a video conference call, I assume to make sure I was not cheating by using a calculator.
Next, I was invited to speak to the marketing manager at this location. He was also very nice and easy to talk to. The interview with him was short and straight forward. I was told I am a great candidate and will be moved on to the final round with the CEO.
This is where I lost all interest in ZL Technologies, despite really liking the people I had talked to prior. This round of the interview is an hour and a half long video call with Kon Leong, the CEO of ZL Technologies. He is a very wise person, but is extremely hard to talk to. It was basically an hour and a half of me giving an answer, then him dissecting it to prove why it wasn't good enough. We did not talk for one second about the role itself, or marketing, or business development, or sales. We spent the majority of the interview talking about whatever weird and random topic he wanted to bring up. For example, he wanted me to demonstrate things that I had learned in the news recently. Also, he asked me personal questions about my family and friends which weren't so bad, just strange. The worst questions were a brain teaser that he made sure to let me know that my answers weren't good enough for. Also a few other ridiculous questions. I basically was made to feel like I was an idiot for an hour and a half straight. Any interest I had in working for ZL Technologies immediately went away as soon as I spoke to Kon. This company has no respect for your time. I have not received a response since this final interview, however I have accepted a position elsewhere. This company thinks they are worth a lot more than they actually are to graduates.
Also, I am not kidding, Kon grilled me for not knowing how black holes work. That is just a taste of how ridiculous this interview process was. I felt like I was in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm
Save your time and look elsewhere.
