I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at York County School Division (Clover, SC)
Interview
I was asked to meet with the principal and another teacher after school (I was currently teaching elsewhere and was moving to their location). It was a very comfortable experience for me, but I admit that these type meetings typically don't make me nervous. Just be prepared and be on time. They asked me a host of questions; we talked for a good hour or more. Then the principal took me on a tour of the school. I felt good about my answers. Don't forget to conduct YOUR interview of the school in a professional manner. This helps them to know that you know your field well. I was offered the job the same day. I had a job interview already set up for the next day in the same district and was upfront, which was appreciated, therefore I asked could I call back in 48 hours with my answer. I did call back and accepted the job, and absolutely loved everyday I worked with this wonderful elementary school. I do have to say that the principle at the time, who was moved to the district office, made our school awesome. The teachers tend to follow the actions of the principal, so definitely do your own homework before accepting a job. York School District is wonderful, but you will definitely want to check out the school in which you want to work. I do not know of any that aren't top-notch!
Interview questions [5]
Question 1
How will you address all of the different learning styles within your class?
Tell us about how you have been conducting your running records.
How do you make sure you teach all of the standards, and in a meaningful way (NOT memorization folks!!)
How do you connect the different subjects so that the students see that they logically "flow" together in the real world, such as math within science, etc.
Very easy and semi-formal. Admin and department chairs present. Asked several questions about my teaching experience and what my vision was for the program. I felt very comfortable and not intimidated at all by the personnel.
