      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Yelp (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2020

      Interview

3 step process. Talked with hiring manager and it was very basic, going through my resume and experience. Next talked with director of the group for a 1 hour phone interview diving deeper into resume and some situational questions relating to my experience. Third stage was a mock presentation at yelp headquarters to the director of the unit and 2 managers of the unit across the country. Mock presentation using PPT to convince a hypothetical restaurant owner not to cancel their contract with yelp.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Yelp (Los Angeles, CA) in Jul 2019

      Interview

This interview process for the most part is the typical job interview. The one thing that is different is the part where they ask you to make a presentation. "Present your favorite app! Please utilize Google Slides to create a presentation that educates us on the app. As a part of the presentation, tell us how the app can be improved and how the improvement impacts the company's overall business and growth." This was a decent size presentation as it was intended to last anywhere from 20-30 minutes. I put in a lot of time making this presentation. The day before I was scheduled to present it I had three interviews Scheduled with 3 men. The last man never made it to the interview due to a conflicting meeting. We rescheduled for the next day to do a phone interview a few hours before the presentation. After rescheduling the interview I received an email from their recruiter informing me that they would like to push back my Presentation to the next week. I said that was fine and rescheduled. Two days after my phone interview and 4 days before my presentation I received an email stating they went ahead and filled the position. Normally this does not bother me as it is what it is when you are on the job hunt. Some jobs extend and offer and some don't. BUT they fact that Yelp has you take hours out of your daily life to work on a presentation for the position and then hire someone before you can present it, is completely rude. The cherry on top is they told me I could still send over the presentation for them to upload it to my file in case the position opens up again. At this point I would never work for Yelp. This experience was an eye opener and showed me the real culture and value of the company. If they treat candidates like this, I doubt they treat their employees any better. 1 Star Interview rating.
