      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Wayfair (Springfield, OR) in Mar 2022

      Interview

The interview process for this position was way easier than I had thought it would be; I wished someone would have left a reasonable review on how the process went, so I'll go over that. From first contact to first day was about 35 days. The first contact was a quick phone call with the recruiter, they get to know you and assess your personality here. These recruiters and everyone I spoke with at Wayfair are super personable, I opted to wear business suitable clothing, but there is no dress code, all of my interviewers were in casual clothing. I did not expect salary would have been brought up this early on in the process, but I really appreciate Wayfair not wanting to waste my time! Second contact was with the team lead of the team I was going to join on with. This is where I was able to really get into what my expectations were with the company and what they expected of me. Do not be afraid to ask the hard questions about benefits, work culture, or the job, after all this is your time to interview the company to make sure you will be a good fit. This second interview was mostly the Team Lead getting to know me and my personality, give me the nitty-gritty info about what the day-to-day would be like, what OSes are supported, how PCs are imaged, how I am judged during my annual reviews (time to first response and time to resolution in their ticketing system). The team lead also gave me a reality check before closing out, noting that new technical support folks are going to be starting out on an evening shift noon - 9 PM Tuesday through Saturday with the ability to work Sundays on an as-needed basis with light hybrid WFH ability (TL mentioned not to rely on this too much, as we ARE a team). He asked me a question or two about "what would you do if...", but nothing really technical that I remember. I finished the meeting feeling great about Wayfair and the customers I'd be working with (just internal Wayfair employees), and thanked the TL for their time. About 20 minutes after we disconnected, I received an email from a different recruiter congratulating me for passing the interview, and asked me to have a quick chat. This chat was to ask any other questions I had about Wayfair, and to set up the next step for the third and final interview, the PANEL INTERVIEW!! I had just gotten over an awful 4 on 1 panel interview, but this one was way easier. There are multiple panels, for me all of the panels were just 1 on 1, back to back, which made it way easier. Each interview was about 30 minutes. First panel, Technical interview. Have a quick chat about how you would fix certain issues on a computer, the interviewer might go over your resume and ask you about certain things. For me, I had Network Admin on my resume, so they asked me about certain aspects of the network like "what is NAT". The idea is they root out if you lied on your resume here. So don't lie on your resume. The second panel was more about team work. They wanted to know how I would interact with customers and peers. The third panel was supposed to be about how I would improve Wayfair as a company. Instead we spoke about football for some time, I think this was a test of my ability to reign in a conversation, so I started throwing in some accomplishments I did at work as smoothly as I could segue them in as football analogies. I asked at the end of the panel, apparently it wasn't a test, and just sitting there talking with the panelist answered all the questions he had for me passively, huge win! At this point, I had a debrief with my recruiter. If anything concerning happened during your interview, bring it up here! Your recruiter’s job is to help you succeed as best as they can! Jumping back to the Panel interview, after this process there is one final Panel that is called the "Culture Conversation", where someone from the Wayfair culture team reaches out to talk to you. This meeting doesn't affect your eligibility for hire (unless you really screw it up), so here you can ask all the tender questions you felt you couldn't ask anyone else on the hiring team for whatever reason. This Culture team member is a dude on the facilities team, there is no dedicated culture team, anyone at Wayfair can do it, pretty cool! Overall, I am extremely impressed by how open and transparent Wayfair has been throughout this entire process. I felt comfortable enough to lay out my expectations and concerns, and felt validated and heard during the entire process. I was able to do a facility tour after I was given an offer!
