      General Manager Interview

      28 Oct 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Lewes, DE
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Wawa (Lewes, DE) in Sept 2020

      Interview

The interview was pretty standard. They ask you to share about yourself, ask a series of canned interview questions/scenarios, then a little more "get to know each other" conversation. The questions are the typical "describe a time when..." and they're looking for a STAR interview response. Pretty straight forward stuff if you have the experiences to back up your responses.

      Question 1

Describe a time when you didn't agree with your supervisor on something, and how did it turn out?

      General Manager Interview

      10 Oct 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Lewes, DE
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Wawa (Lewes, DE) in Oct 2021

      Interview

While my interview went normal, Wawa recruiters and Area Managers look at Wawa as being Walmart or something. I have years of experience has a general manager at a convenience store, however they won’t hire you unless you come from a big box store. They will instead insult you by offering you a assistant manager position. The interview questions are extremely scripted. The area manager was late to the interview. They try to justify you being an assistant because likely it is similar pay to your former job. Who wants to leave a job for the same amount of money at another job? Makes no sense. I met every single job requirement, however since I came from competition, I feel by default they offer assistant. The area manager referred to her leaders as being strongest in the company, yet the district she runs is my local area and I’ve been able to see many issues already as I’ve been observing over time. I believe Wawa has a super high ego. When In reality you’re just a convenience store. Yes I may be a little salty . I received an offer but declined because I did not apply for an assistant position. Immediately when the recruiter called me, within the first minute or so she brought up assistant manager, simply by observing my experience from one of Wawa direct competitors. She said, (quote) “we like to set our general managers up for success, usually individuals who come from (my former job) don’t perform as our general managers do . Uhhh, excuse me? Wawa needs to get a grip. The area manager mentioned she had 15 general managers in a 12 store district. So are you guys even hiring then? This is the type of stuff Wawa will do. Waste your precious time . A trap for them to hire AGMS

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me a time where you developed one of your employees to the next level, what was the action and the result ? Tell me a time where you disagreed with your supervisor? Tell me a time where you disobeyed your supervisor (literally stupid question for a general manager position) Tell me about your availability (also stupid for GM interview) Tell me a time where you weren’t able to handle a customers request, what did you do, what was the result? Tell me a time where an employee conflict arises, how did you handle that? Tell me a time when you called out of work (stupid)

      General Manager Interview

      16 Aug 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience

      Application

      I interviewed at Wawa

      Interview

Was contacted by a recruiter interested in me applying. After doing so, received a phone interview and an in person interview within a week. After waiting for almost an hour to be interviewed at a location, I was wedged into a small office and was often interrupted by employees coming in and out of the small space. Lots of absurd questions about far fetched scenarios that I may have faced in my career. Very scripted. The two gentlemen who conducted the interview were pleasant but the process felt very rigid and calculated.
