Fitness Coach and Personnal Trainer Interview

      16 Feb 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Nottingham, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Virgin Active (Nottingham, England) in Feb 2017

      Interview

I phoned to check if this was a mass interview and was told no there was a job and numbers would be small. There were 16 of a planned 20 turned up and i think another session after us. There is no reason for the numbers and you can only assume they go on what you look like, there was no facilitation for disabilities as the interview was up massive stairs after a walk though a very dark gym. There was a talk about how good virgin was and how good the guy was then a small group logic test which the guy really liked seeing some people not being able to do. We were told we would have to do press ups as a punishment for not completing the test. er really, you interview someone trying to get a job and then when its apparent they cant do it punish them. Group body language by the end was desperate to aggressive when told there were only 18 hours a week on offer at minimum wage. Although to be fair that includes 2 memberships @ about 60 quid a month which would make 8 hours a week a good number. The guy didn't even wish anybody well or thank them for coming just kind of congratulated himself on what a good job he had done.

Thank you for posting this review, it's helpful for us to hear about how candidates experience our process. We do our best to make sure everyone has a positive experience with us, so it's a shame you didn't enjoy the session like others. We typically have a large group at Assessment Centre's as it gives us an opportunity to see as many people as possible; we assess candidates to consider their ability to be successful in the role, including technical skills and behaviours. Within our Assessment email communication, we give everyone the opportunity to make us aware of any reasonable adjustments required regarding disabilities; we didn’t get any requests for this Assessment. Our Assessment involves an ice breaker where candidates are tasked with explaining an object for the rest of the group to guess, the press ups were designed to be a fun element if the group didn't guess correctly. Unfortunately the fun nature in which it was intended didn’t seem to come across to yourself on this occasion, so apologies for any confusion. Regarding the hours & pay, these were advertised when you applied for the role, there is actually an opening for overtime increasing the opportunity by an additional 10 hours which was communicated on the day. Thank you for attending the session with us and thank you again for the useful insight into how you experienced our process. Hopefully the above gives some explanation as to the session you experienced, but I would love to discuss it more with you. If you’d be happy to give me more detail, please do email recruitment@virginactive.co.uk where we can pick it up further. All the best, Jeanette.
