I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Viasat (Carlsbad, CA) in May 2013
Interview
Hiring Manager interview went well. Next interviewer was a recent graduate in computer engineering and asked 3 pages of test questions, mostly related to programming, which is what she knew, not integration and test engineering. She didn't ask about my experience and how it relates to their systems. She and next interviewer asked questions about the code they knew rather than the code I knew, even though the job description named several scripting languages. I expected more engineering questions, but it was almost all software programming questions. I could explain in English but they wanted straight definitions. Other question they wanted answers literally out of Wikipedia. Clearly most of the interviewers were recent college graduates with only a few years of experience and none of their experience was of substance. Just plain lab rats who wanted more lab rats and not someone who could possibly think outside the box. Too bad. 5 interviewers 45 min each.

Question 1
What's a mutex? I answered it wrong. She went on to next question. I asked the answer. When she said "mutually exclusive" I said I can explain what mutually exclusive means. She said never mind and wasn't interested in letting me explain the definition. Odd to me that they wanted someone with a rote memory rather than an engineer who knows how to think.
