Had a great call with their recruiter and she said that they were in growth mode and had several openings that she thought I could be a good fit for. She explained the interview process would consist of a recruiter call, 2-panel interviews with other peers, and an interview with the hiring manager. Upon being moved to the next round I met with 2 other Account Managers and quickly learned that most of them have been there for more than a decade and are very set in their corporate structure. They expressed that they had interviewed countless individuals and made it seem that the hiring manager was extremely picky. Based on our conversation they felt my experience was above the current role I was interviewing for and recommended I interview for their Strategic AM position. They immediately put me on notice that the position had been open for a very long time and hoped that it could be filled soon since the hiring manager was being very demanding with all of the requirements he wanted out of candidate. Sure enough, when I met with the hiring manager, he had a laundry list of must-haves from a candidate. One thing that any hiring manager or organization must realize, is that YOU have been doing the job for a very long time and have a fixed mindset on how things should be. However, hiring new employees inherently opens you up to understanding different points of view and understanding that there will be a learning curve for anyone in a new position. He hesitantly moved me on to the next round of the interview process with another Strategic Manager and he was completely disinterested in the interview process. He said he hadn't had time to look at my resume and didn't know what to talk about. They use WEBEX and it kept glitching and the conversation was cut short as the screen went dark. the next day I received an automated email that I was not selected as a candidate. Overall, anyone who has been in a position for more than a decade, and surrounds themselves with individuals who parrot their way of thinking leaves innovation, collaboration, and team dynamics out of the equation and hinders the evolution of a company in this digital landscape .
