I received a request for an interview in response to an application I submitted for an open Contracts administration position with Versar. The interview was scheduled for 12/30 and I confirmed the interview the day before. On the morning of 12/30, about an hour before the interview, I received a call telling me the interview was cancelled because after further review Versar decided my background wasn't the right fit for the position.
A company has the right to offer a candidate an interview or not to offer an interview for any reason, of course, but, to schedule an interview, confirm the interview and then cancel at the very last minute is simply unprofessional. Once they offered the interview, they should have gone through with it. What could it hurt? They didn't have to offer me the position after all.
