First, I had a phone interview with a very nice internal recruiter. He told me all about the position details (different than the advertised description-actually more suited to my experience), asked me to describe my experience, and told me all about his experience working at the company. He made me give my target salary, I told him I wasn't sure because it depended on benefits - he actually looked at his paycheck details to tell me what he paid for insurance (so I had to tell him a salary range). After talking to him, I was really excited about possibly working at Verizon.
Next, I was invited to a half-day series of Zoom interviews with 3 Senior Managers, a Director, and two Data Scientists (peers). The first senior manager informed me that the hiring manager/focus of the job might have changed but she wasn't sure. Asked me some questions, I asked some questions. She was not dressed professionally at all but was nice. The second senior manager informed me that he was now the hiring manager and we talked about the job and my experience.
Now, the third senior manager is where things went downhill. He obviously did not want to be there. He never smiled, was looking at his second monitor typing the entire time, and was obviously not listening because he would ask me a follow up question for literally the last sentence I had just said. He asked every single generic STAR interview question he could. By then end, I didn't have much to ask since I'd asked the recruiter and then the other two people a bunch of questions - but I did ask him something.
After I finished the interview, I saw that I got a zoom cancellation email for my meeting with the Director. I asked the recruiter to make sure it was really canceled, and she informed me that Senior Manager #3 had told her to cancel it WHILE I WAS MEETING WITH HIM.
I finally talked to the two Data Scientists. They were really nice but it seemed like they were business analysts and not Data Scientists. They had a lot less experience than I did.
About 3 weeks later, I got an automated email saying that I didn't get the job and they went with another candidate, but the job is still posted 6 weeks after my interview. I would not have accepted the job had it been offered because it would have meant working with Senior Manager #3.
