Fairly easy interview process. Phone screen to briefly talk through my background, but mostly was talking through the benefits of working at the company and to briefly go through the responsibilities of the role. After that, there was an hour long panel interview with the hiring manager and two other employees that would be on the same team. The questions asked were all behavioral interview questions, and I got the feeling that they were more looking for someone who would fit into the culture of the team, rather than someone who may possess the right skills for the job. This was also evidenced by the fact that they did not ask a single question about my technical skills, or the projects I had worked on in past roles that would be relevant to the open position at the company. This raised red flags for me, as I was looking for a role that would help me develop in my career. I also was bothered by the fact that when I asked for the timeline in which they would make a decision, the hiring manager responded with “I’m not sure, probably a few weeks”. Ok, I get that you are a smaller company, but when candidates are actively interviewing at multiple companies, that’s probably not the best response that you can give them. I ended up turning down their offer due to the fact that I didn’t think there would be much chance for career development.
