I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Varonis Systems (London, England) in Apr 2021
Interview
I went through an agency which didn’t brief me properly, but once I spoke to Varonis it was clear what I needed to do to succeed and I had a good interview.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Varonis Systems in Jul 2024
Interview
It was a two-step process. Step one was an interview with a recruiter over the phone which was fairly easy. Make sure you fit the basic requirements and can handle a job with a lot of cold outreach. The second step was a panel hour-long interview which consisted of a cold call role play, prospecting assignment questions, and traditional interview questions.
The panel interview was interesting, to say the least. I believe it is set up in a way to ask you questions and see how you respond under pressure. You will feel uncomfortable during this phase. I have had other SDR role interviews which were not as intense. Some questions that were asked were way above the understanding of a fresh SDR, but I believe they were asked to see how you would respond under pressure.
I felt great on the role play, terrible during the prospecting assignment portion, and great again during traditional interviews. Ultimately you can't prepare for everything and need to be calm throughout even if you suck on a certain section.

Question 1
If you were to get (prospect X from assignment) on the phone. What would be one thing you say at the end of the call that would make them look at the email they asked you to send?

Interview
The interview process consisted of two steps: a phone call with the hiring team and a basic prospecting task + cold call roleplay, which was straightforward and to the point. The initial call was pleasant, and the interviewers were professional and lovely.
However, the in-person interview was an absolute disaster and easily the worst interview experience I’ve had since graduating several years ago. One of the interviewers seemed disinterested yawning throughout the interview. Meanwhile, another interviewer gave off a confrontational vibe, and their responses to my answers felt snide. The body language made the entire experience feel more like an interrogation than an interview. It was uncomfortable, disrespectful, and honestly baffling. I’m not sure if this was some kind of intimidation tactic they’ve decided to adopt, but it’s an entry-level sales role, not a high-stakes executive position. There are plenty of other opportunities in the market, and after this experience, I’m relieved I won’t be working in such an environment. Sales is already a stressful job—no one should have to deal with this kind of behaviour.
To top it all off, I was told I’d get a response within the week. It’s now been over three weeks, and I haven’t been notified whether I was rejected or not. At this point, I’m assuming I’ve been ghosted, which reflects poorly on their professionalism.
After going through this, I can say the existing poor reviews about being a TDR at this company make complete sense. If this is a preview of what the company culture is like, I feel like I dodged a major bullet. Definitely would not recommend this interview experience or pursuing employment here.
