I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at United Nations (Goma) in Nov 2024
Interview
I applied through the United Nations Volunteer Platform in mid-October. About ten days later, I received an initial email asking me to confirm my availability. Two weeks after that, I was contacted again with the proposed date and time for the interview, which was scheduled for another two weeks ahead. In total, it took about one month from the application to the actual interview. The interview itself lasted around 30 minutes, was conducted in both English and French, and included three people: the head of the unit and two colleagues.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
In short, they asked me to share more about myself and my professional background, as well as questions related to program management and day-to-day operations. The interview, conducted in both English and French, also included questions on how I managed different stakeholders and how I had dealt with conflict situations.
The process had the following steps: - Online application - Written assessment - Compentence-based interview (common model for UN) Between time of application and response, it was about 7 months so *not* a short period.

Question 1
Questions were based on the competences required for the job so, in this case, provide examples of Professionalism, Planning & Organizing, and Teamwork.
Very mechanical, not interactive interview lasting around 30 minutes. The questions were very generic, not related to the job description. No follow up questions, no additional questions about specific work experience, nothing: just working down their list.
