When the apprenticeship is open to join, you can obtain application information on the Local 290 website. You will mail in a form with questions about education and work/trades history. If you are accepted, you will be notified by mail, and invited to attend a testing session. The tests cover mathematics and mechanical reasoning. You will be notified by mail of your interview date and time. The interview is with the OR SW-WA NW-CA Steamfitters JATC and is held at the Local 290 Union Hall. Applicants are ranked based on test and interview scores. You will be notified by mail of your rank. If you are accepted into the apprenticeship program, you will be called and asked to attend an orientation class.
