      Assistant Branch Manager Interview

      24 Sept 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at U.S. Bank in Jul 2013

      Interview

I applied directly through the company's website on Sunday night. I originally applied for this same position at three different locations just to cover my bases. Monday morning received an email saying one location had already filled the position. Later that same afternoon, I received a call from a branch manager asking for an interview that week. We set up a netting for that Friday. The very next day (Tuesday) I received call from another branch manager asking for an interview at the third location I had applied for. Not wanting to wast the opportunity, I agreed and we set a meeting for Thursday. I was told over the phone by both managers that the interviews would be relatively informal with the branch manager and I. (I take it this was their usual process) Informal or not, I still prepared myself for anything, professional dress, well groomed, and arrived early to both interviews with two copies of my résumé, cover letter, and a copy of a few team building projects and customer service awards. I figured stepping into a manager role, I'd need all the help I could get. As I arrived I introduced myself to their personal bankers and asked for the manager, both whom met me in the lobby. One took me to his office for the interview while the other conducted the interview in the breakroom since his office was occupied. Both interviews went smoothly. They both had a list of questions, however I assume it was mainly a guideline because one manager seems to ask the questions off the list in a row while the other seemed to ask a little more creative questions. Both interviews lasted nearly 90 minutes but while the Interviews were long, there was never a time I felt like I was being drilled or interrogated in any way. A lot like just having a conversation with a collogue. No question stood out as being too unexpected. There were a lot of "tell me about a time when..." Mainly focusing on team building, a few on cross selling but each manager asked probably 15-20 questions each. I was able to answer every question and didn't really have to sit and think too long on any one question, not sure if that just meant the questions were all easy or if I just happened to be well prepped. At the end of both interviews I was told that the next step was for me to interview with their district manager so to give them a few days and they would let me know when that would be. The following Tuesday I received a call back from the first manager I interviewed with and he said he and the district manager would like to set up a meeting Friday at 10am. We held the meeting, it lasted about 45 minutes, essentially again, no questions out of the ordinary, but there were just a lot of questions. Probably 10 between the two of them, then towards the end turned a little more informal and it was more about personality and how you'd fit in with the culture. At about 3:30 that same day I received a call from the hiring manager extending an offer!

count on second interview if they like you, this is a big company with opportunities. They are very cheap with their pay offer and labor. if you like overtime, this is a wrong place to work at. Keep your mouth shut as anything you say it can and will be used against you. This is not a company to freely speak your mind,

      Interview

The interview process begins with phone screening and in-person interview. Prepare for the interview and make sure to bring you customer service skills and dress to impress. On the phone screen, is not difficult, the bank just want to pick up on your characteristics and make sure your a good fit for the role. In-person interview is all about showing up on-time, dressed for interview, answering the question in short and elaborating when asked to do so. An email or phone call will be received if you got the job or not, it takes very quick turnaround time. Remember customer service, sales, operations, quality work, and willing to grow.
