      Crew Interview

      17 Jul 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Washington, DC) in Jun 2023

      Interview

There are two interviews. One with an assistant manager and one with the store manager. Each person comes to the interview with grace, respect, and kindness. They ask basic questions on teamwork, work styles, problem-solving examples, and so on. Even if the interview process goes without any issue, they are more likely to reject than accept, especially if you have managerial experience on your resume. I've been told Trader Joes prefers people without much experience in retail to avoid any instances of complaints against management. They want people who have no other references as to how a stopre should be run and people who are less likely to speak out against bad management.

      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Santa Cruz, CA)

      Interview

1 phone call, two in person, never got the job. Short and simple interview, the third one was long but it was just the employee yapping about the job and what they do. Pretty lame considering they already knew they weren’t going to hire me. Said they were gonna call me and never did. Just call and say that you don’t wanna hire me and move on, how hard is that?

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself (classic). Why Trader Joe's, tell me about a time where you provided excellent service, etc pretty basic and easy questions.

      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Trader Joe's in Oct 2025

      Interview

Applications in my area are accepted in-person and online. I'd applied online. There were two interviews: one with two mates (supervisors) and one with the captain (store manager). Communication was excellent; I was not left waiting long, though I do not recall exact timeframes. I am not sure how to speak to interview difficulty. Compared to what? Two interviews is 'easy' compared to other processes I have gone through. The care going into the decision was just as careful though, it seems to me. So, 'difficult'. Questions were largely in the behavioral category, and it helped to have a few examples in mind. So, 'average'.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Of course, they wanted to see how I'd handled various challenges in the past. While both interviews wanted to feel out if I (and my availability) would be a good fit, they were also intentional about prompting me to think about if they would be a good fit for me. I do not remember the exact questions asked.
