      Copywriter III Interview

      31 May 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Tommy Bahama (Seattle, WA) in Mar 2026

      Interview

Had a long call with a recruiter (about 45 min) only for them to tell me at the end that the pay range was actually going to be 30k less than what they advertised in the job posting (comical when you think about the fact they are looking for someone with 8+ years experience to do strategy work and they are in office 5 days a week). I spent hours preparing for my interview and the recruiter asked me so many in depth questions about my resume/career only to basically tell me at the end that they were looking for someone who would accept 30k less than the high-end of the range they advertised? Wouldn’t it have been more efficient to have a 15 min screening call to talk through basic information and level-set/see if it’s a good fit before digging into my career at that level in depth? That seemed so backwards to me and such a waste of time for both parties. The recruiter was also clearly out of her depth and had very little experience. She started the interview by telling me about the job for a few min and then opening it up for questions (which usually happens at the end). She couldn’t answer half my questions and then once I realized she wasn’t going to ask me to tell her about myself or why I’m a good fit I had to offer up “so you want me to walk you through my career and tell you a bit about myself?” It felt like this was her first time interviewing anyone. My suggestion would be having a 15 min screening phone call with the recruiter first, then having a more in depth video interview with a hiring manager.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about a time a brief was unclear. Tell me about a time you received pushback from stakeholders. Tell me what work in your career you’re most proud of.
