Incredibly strange process that ended up being a total turn off.
I was contacted by a recruiter indicating that they wanted to set up an initial phone screen. I immediately filled out my availability on their calendar and...crickets. The recruiter never got back to me to actually confirm an interview time and date, so after two days, I followed up to confirm they received my availability.
Several days later, a different recruiter responded with the same automated email asking me to send in my availability for a phone screen, without any acknowledgment or explanation of the recruiter switch. I thought it was weird, but was excited about the company, so I filled out my calendar availability. Once again, I heard...nothing.
After multiple follow-up emails asking about the scheduling of my screening call and inquiries as to whether Toast was even still hiring for the position, I assumed I had been ghosted and moved on with other job applications and interviews at different companies.
Almost a month later, I got an automated "we've moved forward with other candidates" email.
A bizarre process that lacked transparency and seemed scattered and disorganized.
My advice to recruiters at Toast: simply be more communicative and responsive to candidates--it's the bare minimum and anything less is disrespectful.

Difficult interview
Application
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Toast Inc (Jacksonville, FL) in Jun 2022
Interview
They put me through 7 interviews and a portfolio review. Once it was down to me and one other person, they said they were "reorganizing" the department and ghosted me entirely.
Between the seven interviews, the recruiter frequently missed our touch base calls, never gave me a heads up, and was difficult to get ahold of. Only interview here if you have the patience of an absolute saint.

Question 1
Ideally, what information would you have about a writing project prior to starting it?
Thank you for sharing this valuable feedback. What you've described here does not align with the candidate experience we aim to provide. We know how much time and effort goes into the interview process, so it is disappointing to hear you did not receive the proper follow-up from the team. We will be sure to share this review with the team so that we can do better moving forward.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Toast Inc
Interview
Overall, a very positive experience.
I was quickly moved through the process, from the phone screening to the team interviews.
The recruiter kept me updated throughout and worked closely with my schedule. Interviews started on time and everybody was friendly and conversational. The culture seems to be very open, accommodating, and has plenty of room for growth.
I withdrew from the process after receiving a competitive offer, but from my conversations and experience, I'd highly recommend Toast to job hunters.
