People I interviewed with were great. However, the process is clunky and drawn out longer than it has any right to be. I was notified up front that I would be partaking in 6 interviews. I'd never heard of that before, especially since I wasn't interviewing for a C-suite position.
Overall, I went through 5 interviews spanning nearly 6 weeks of time. How anyone could last that long while needing a job is beyond me, but luckily I was gainfully employed while interviewing. Interview process was as follows:
- Recruiter Interview
- Leader interview
- Work Interview (had to produce a piece for them)
- Team Interview
- Culture Interview
The biggest kicker is they took me all the way to the culture interview, 2 weeks between each scheduled interview, and then inexplicably sent me a thank you for applying letter. The culture interview (from my point of view) went great. Myself and the 2 interviewers were laughing, they told me how they liked my view on answers, and the time was overall enjoyable. I thought I had it in the bag considering all of my other interviews generally went the same way (and must have been good or they wouldn't have sent me to the next phase).
However 5 days later I got a generic "Thank you for your interest in Thoughtworks" email that someone would receive if they had simply submitted an application and then let known they were going in a different direction... I understand companies are busy, but come on. After 6 weeks of time invested, meeting with 7 different team members, and completing a project for them you'd think they could do more than that.
I politely responded to the email saying while it was disappointing that they are going in a different direction I wish them the best of luck in their search for a candidate and if there was anything they could let me know on how I could improve in the future or what it was that made them decide to move in another direction it would be highly appreciated.
I got nothing back from them. Ghosted. So yeah, overall it was a negative experience. Way too long and drawn out, and then I felt like i had the rug pulled out from under me with no explanation at all.
It's unfortunate too because it really does seem like a great company. Hopefully I just had a one-off bad experience.
