I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at The UPS Store (Ballwin, MO) in Sept 2022
Interview
Applied via Indeed and received a call the next day. I missed the call but the voicemail indicated I could text her (the owner) back also so I did that and we set a time for me to come into the store. The next day at the store we walked across to a coffee shop and chatted about my experience and I saw a lot of passion she had for the business, which made it easier to converse as friends/humans rather than some horrific interrogation interviews you hear about. It was a really endearing encounter and we talked about our personal lives as well, kids, past positions, goals, etc. Pretty normal interview questions but it went both ways so it was more of a friendly conversation and we both learned an equal amount about each other I guess. Really great owner. Talked about pay and was able to negotiate above the listed salary. Offered job on the spot. TIPS - Be nice, kind, understanding, courteous, etc! It’s a customer service position after all. Helps to bring up that you’re pretty good at learning or figuring out new technology/systems, bc there are a few different ones used there that freak some new employees out and is supposedly the main reason people will leave after a week. (Bonus tip, they’re really not that hard to learn.)
No STAR questions, just general versions of them, most were not even questions at all - more like, “so we get a lot of customers in, and you know, 99% are really nice around here, but you’ll sometimes get someone who’s really angry —“ (it was a flowing conversation, so I was able to appropriately jump in and “answer”).
Dropped off resume in store, then met with the manager in person where they asked about my experience and availability and then after a few days I had a follow up call with the senior manager.
The interview was engaging and insightful, highlighting my skills, experience, and career goals. It provided an opportunity to discuss my strengths, clarify expectations, demonstrate enthusiasm for the role, and showcase my problem-solving abilities.
Once you offer up your availability that’s the only time you’ll actually be considered highly no matter what low amount of qualifications you may or may not have. Pretty straightforward questions, none of the long term questions just short term goals questions.
