Two(ish) interviews, both with managing editor -- first one to establish my fit for the role and ideas, and the second where I was asked a few clarification questions and received an offer. First interview focused on my story ideas, and how my experience at my college paper/past internship would translate into my coverage in the role. Editor enjoyed hearing story ideas and noted that my pitches made me stand out. As interns are assigned to different coverage areas/desks, we also talked about my preferences there.
I applied online. I interviewed at The Sacramento Bee (Sacramento, CA) in Apr 2020
Interview
I had a video interview, it seemed to go very well, but I didn't get the job. They asked lots of in-depth questions about my skill set and experience There were two interviewing me.
The managing editor called me and asked me to talk about myself. The interview was very casual and the interviewer very friendly! The first couple of questions were related to my journalism experience but the rest of the interview was more about my background and my interests.
