I recently interviewed for an Associate Supervisor, Commerce Experience position within the retail store. The interview was an extremely hostile environment that was both inappropriate and deeply disappointing.
It began with aggressive and condescending behavior, followed by being laughed in my face when I answered questions, and then intimidation tactics that made me feel genuinely unsafe. I’ve never experienced such unprofessional conduct in an interview, especially not from a respected institution.
I left the interview shaken and disturbed.
This experience does not reflect the values or reputation I believed this establishment stood for. I hope leadership is aware of the toxic environment this individual is curating, and how it may be affecting current staff and deterring qualified candidates. No one deserves to be treated this way in a professional setting.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I was asked sarcastic follow up questions to generic interview questions such as: I was asked why do you want this position? Followed up with a sarcastic tone that I interpreted as being mocked and was asked: but why do you lOoOoOove waking up and doing ecommerce since you loOoOoOove it so much?
I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at The New York Botanical Garden (New York, NY)
Interview
The interview was a phone screening, then a phone interview, then an in person interview. I found the people at all steps to be very professional, and it did seem like each step was useful, i.e. not repetitive discussions.
