I had three phone interviews over a three month period with the final round of interviews being face-to-face in Mason, Ohio with five members of their leadership team. I liked everyone I interviewed with and I felt they were straight-forward and respectful during the interview process. I was told during these interviews they didn't have an individual performance bonus only a company performance yearly bonus that wasn't guaranteed and this non guaranteed bonus "could" pay up to 30%. Unfortunately, no one could tell me the percentage the bonus paid in each of the past 3 years. After eight total interviews, numerous tests, and very positive feedback, they made me an offer. Unfortunately, they low balled me on the salary offer at $10k below the mid point salary range for this type of position and used a bonus factor of 28% in the comp calculation which is only 2% less than the high end of the bonus range that wasn't guaranteed. With tons of industrial sales experience, strong past results, and huge potential, I countered the offer with close to the mid point salary range for this job description which was $12k higher than their initial offer. Instead of respecting the fact they had a major league home run hitter at their door step that went through a 3 month long interview process and met all the criteria they were looking for and replying with a reasonable offer to my counter offer, they rescinded their initial offer and told me good luck with my job search. This was by far the strangest negotiation out of thousands that I have been a part of. As a candidate for this company, there seems to be no respect for new hires unless you are willing to accept their initial lower range offer.
