      Part Time Sales Associate Interview

      28 May 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Tempe, AZ
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at The Buckle (Tempe, AZ) in May 2015

      Interview

Outfit: Dark wash, well fitted skinny Jeans, with jeweled back pockets. A white lacy tank top, styled like a wife beater, but has a slight ruffle on the bottom. Brown boots. and an oatmeal colored light cardigan. My hair was down and my bangs pinned up. Big nerdy glasses. Neutral eyeshadow and a slight cat eye (nothing over the top). I'm skinny, average height, and white. Ear pierced with white studs. 20 years old. As others have stated, they take you to the corner of the store to interview you. I walked in six minutes early, upon entering. There was a girl who greeted me, but she gave me such a weird look when I walked up to her. I smiled and tried to be energetic. It was odd considering that the only thing weird about me were my oversized glasses, which are a bit dorky, but getting weird disgruntled looks seems over the top. I looked around a little bit when I was asked to wait, but then I sat down to wait since I didn't feel like 'pretend' shopping. None of the workers tried to sell me anything. The interview questions were beyond basic, however, I had prepared myself by looking on this site, so I answered everything quickly and easily. I even got her to talk to me about what SHE likes about her job when she asked if I had questions. I came prepared with letters from my previous job's managers, and copy of my resume. I knew half way through, I hadn't made the cut. She seemed bored and started to get distracted by the employees huddled up behind us. She also started asking me dumb questions related to my small business, which she didn't give me ample time to somehow to push forward information about my capabilities or what I could add to the buckle company. (She looked like she didn't expect me to be able to add anything either, with her bored "can I get this over with" look) Normally, I wouldn't think that was a big deal. Sometimes you don't get jobs, it happens. It's just a clothing store. However, the thing is, I have SO much experience in retail. I'm a pro at customer service, I have customer reviews saved and letters from my previous job's district manager thanking me for treating customers as top priority (which doesn't happen often at that giant corporate chain). Along with that, any of my references, would back up my credibility and often ask me to come back (all of my references were managers and supervisors). Beyond that, I own my own small business (I wanted something to help keep me busy during the week), which means I have management experience, etc. I didn't even brag, I just answered as honestly as possible and tried to be funny. Dude.... It's almost crazy that I wasn't hired. I received the email two days after my interview. On my way out, the employees kept giving me these dull weird stares. He barely wished me a good day. I'm a little relieved that I won't be working with these oddballs. Although incredibly mystified by why I didn't get a second interview. (No, my conversation was not as long and boring as this review haha). I hope people have better luck than I.

      Interview

On the sales floor with a manager. It was pretty casual. It was the store manager and then another one with her. Pretty standard interview questions where they ask about previous work experience, school, and availability. The interview took about 15 minutes.
