Interview went great. I was invited for a 2‑hour trial shift (which started 30 mins late due to a missing manager), during which I carried out regular staff tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and assisting customers at the cloakroom. Despite working hard and showing curiosity, I received no pay for my time and the feedback given was very vague (“not a good fit”).
From what I observed, there is high staff turnover, with many new starters coming in as others leave. Contract terms were not made clear, and I was not told whether roles were zero‑hours.
I also noticed that the computer workstations did not have adjustable chairs, which raised some concern regarding compliance with UK VDU regulations for ergonomic safety. This could potentially lead to discomfort or injury over time for staff required to spend extended periods at the desk.
While colleagues seemed friendly, management communication was poor. If you are considering a role here, I would recommend asking upfront about pay for trial shifts and contract details.
