I applied online. I interviewed at Test Driven Solutions (Newcastle upon Tyne, England)
Interview
Chat with recruiter about my background and talk about the role, then a short take home exercise (APIs) to complete, 1hr pair programming - going over the exercise and adding another endpoint. Last stage is a informal 30min chat with the CEO, mostly about general interests and hobbies for culture fit.
Recruiter Kylie was great, checked in and kept me up to date regularly, everyone was very friendly, and application to offer process was quick and smooth.

Interview
Kylie from TDS made the entire interview process seamless. From start to finish, I was kept updated on what to expect and when each step would happen.
I had two interviews: a technical interview and a meeting with the CEO.
The technical interview was with two engineers who were both incredibly friendly and helpful. They made what is usually a stressful experience enjoyable and engaging.
The second interview, with the CEO, Sam, was great as well. He seemed genuine, friendly, and easy to talk to. In my previous experiences, I’ve seen technically excellent hires who were very difficult to work with, so it was reassuring that the CEO takes the time to check if the person is a good fit for the company and its culture.
Overall, TDS seems like an excellent place to work if the people I interacted with are representative of the company culture.
In the end, I went with another offer. It was a very tough choice, but I wanted to take a “YOLO” approach and try something completely outside my comfort zone. Hopefully, I’ll have the chance to work with the TDS team in the future once I’ve further developed my skill set.

Question 1
I got asked to create an app in my own time to work with in the technical meeting. This is a superior way to work, especially over doing l33tcode challenges and all that crap that its totally not representative of how a engineer works.
Thank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback. We’re delighted to hear you had a positive interview experience with Kylie, our engineers, and Sam. We completely understand your decision and wish you every success in your new role!
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Test Driven Solutions in Mar 2025
Interview
Recruiter reached out me on LinkedIn. After short call I was invited to first part interview, it was more theoretical and we spoke about my experience. Next level was technical interview with logical task, live coding and few theoretical questions (1 hour). I passed this and was invited to last interview with CEO. I booked a time during my working day and was waiting on Google meet 15 minutes, during that messaged recruiter and she was trying to call CEO or other invited people. Some time after that one person joined call and said that I should wait some time because CEO is busy:) he joined at the end of planned call and proposed to make interview later same day. I answered that Im busy with my work till the end of the day. We agreed to postpone the interview to next week.
Day before that their recruiter called me and asked that they already have a project for me and if I can cut my notice period from 1 month to 2 weeks (suggestion from her was to take a vacation for 2 weeks, even if I'm on B2B contract and I don't paid vacation, if I take day off, its unpaid. Could mention here, that on first call I described recruiter that my notice is 1 month. By the way, she gave advice to talk with management of we can cut notice.
My mistake was that I trusted the recruiter's words and discussed with my management that I was leaving, asking for a shorter notice period. The cherry on top was that during the final call with the CEO, at the very end, he mentioned that the position was actually hybrid, because they were trying to build a certain culture in the Polish office.
It’s important to note that throughout the entire process and in the job description shared by the recruiter on LinkedIn, it was clearly stated as fully remote.
I won't even go deeper into the weird interview questions, like asking what music I listen to and writing something down after I answered.
After that conversation, the CEO went on vacation, and a week later, the recruiter told me that I wasn't a cultural fit.
When I pointed out the inconsistencies in the process and the fact that they revealed the hybrid setup only at the final stage, I got a vague reply saying it was not about what I thought and that I just didn't match their 'culture' in some other way. They added that they would keep in touch with me.
In short, I strongly advise against wasting your time — time you could spend earning money, learning something new, or simply resting — on this unprofessional recruitment process. It's better to invest your time in yourself than to be misled by these scammers.
