I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Tesla in Jul 2016
Interview
Overall the process was needlessly lengthy, and not transparent. It sometimes took several email pings to make sure things were progressing. Nearly 2 months total to get through the off site interview process.
After answering the recruiting email, we planned an introduction call with the recruiter.
Next was a technical screens with Tesla engineers, covering general software algorithms.
A week later I was given a "coding challenge", constructing a full software solution that is supposed to take around 3 hours to implement .
I moved on to another technical phone screen, similar to the first.
1 Week later they passed on the application.
