      Senior Site Merchandiser Interview

      24 Sept 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Minneapolis, MN
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Target (Minneapolis, MN) in May 2014

      Interview

Several months before my interview process, a recruiter from Target contacted me. I wasn't looking for a job at the time. My circumstances changed and I reached out to her a few months later. I was contacted quickly for a phone screening on March 31st. It went well. I then had to contact the recruiter again as I never received a promised follow-up email. Two and a half weeks later, I had a phone interview with the hiring manager on April 16th. I heard nothing and contacted the recruiter again on April 30th. He expressed Target's interest in inviting me to an on-site interview. I accepted and awaited details. On May 16th, I received an automated email asking me to complete a 60-minute online survey. I did. I interviewed in Minneapolis on May 23rd. The setup was painless. The flight was fine and the hotel was nice. A recruiter met me in the lobby of my hotel and led me to the Target campus. I met with 4 people (3 superiors and 1 peer). The interviews went well, I thought. Everything seemed positive. After my interviews, Target sent me on a tour of Minneapolis. A driver took me on a 2-hour ride through the city. He was extremely nice and knowledgeable. He showed me the areas of Minneapolis where most Target employees chose to live. He showed me the nicest areas for apartments, then dropped me at the airport. It was really fantastic. June 5th - I had to contact the recruiter again as I hadn't heard anything. June 10th - I received an automated survey asking me how my interview went. I answered positively since I had not heard back from Target. June 11th - I'm left a voicemail saying Target had decided to go a different direction. I replied with an email asking for feedback. I received a response on June 13th saying they really liked me, but they decided to hire another candidate. The recruiter then posted the job on LinkedIn. It was a terrible experience. Communication was awful. It took MONTHS for them to decide they didn't want me.
