      Senior Graphic Designer Interview

      27 Feb 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Target in Feb 2019

      Interview

I was contacted by the recruiter for the position 3 days after applying. She scheduled a phone interview with me. When the time came for the interview, the recruiter never called. I had to contact her instead, to which she emailed me back to tell me that she "forgot" - this email response came around 10/11pm at night. Yikes. I knew I was in for a trip. We rescheduled for a second phone interview. Again, she didn't call. I once more had to contact her to tell her she missed our second interview, and she told me she forgot a SECOND time. Once, sure, mistakes happen...but twice? Extremely unprofessional. I had to take time off work for these two phone interviews, and for the recruiter to miss both appointments was a complete waste of time. Thus, we rescheduled a third attempt. The recruiter phoned in late (of course) and she told me she hadn't even looked at my resume nor my portfolio prior to the interview! And get this - at the end of the interview, she tried to defer me to a lower position from what I applied for. Incredibly insulting. I politely pointed out while that was a possibility, my years of experience would put me in a good fit for the role I applied for. As a result, the recruiter tried rush off into a farewell and hang up the phone before I even got to ask any questions. I stopped her short to ask about Target's plans for goals the future over the next 5 years. The recruiter then told me she absolutely NO IDEA about Target's agenda and that kind of question was better suited for a different employee. Can you believe the audacity? I was told to expect a call in the next few days, but hey, let's face it, I knew that wasn't true. Another couple of weeks passed, and I received a rejection email...around midnight. Naturally. This experience completely turned me off from ever applying to Target Careers again since their recruiting department seems to be careless and disrespectful. If Target isn't getting the top talent they're searching for, here's your answer.

      Interview

Five 15 minute interviews. It was great to get exposure to so many decision makers, but it's very hard to get through your portfolio, and ask questions in 15 minutes.
