I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Susquehanna International Group
Interview
Called by staffing company, then hr call, then onsite with code test & panels. Onsite process was smooth. Met with tech team and management; all were very nice.
The nightmare is really the hr. Got 3 separate calls from staffing company and hr trying to scope what's the lowest number to which I would say yes, before making an insultingly low offer. They called me the day after the onsite about offer number so it's not even as though I was their backup candidate; this is just how their hr treat people.
Later found out from staffing company that hr guy grossly misrepresented my current compensation to the board (significantly lower than what I actually make, and a number that neither I nor the staffing company ever gave him, & nowhere close to industry rate for my current company/role) so that I got boxed into a much lower range. Was repeatedly called by hr and staffing company after rejecting the lowball offer. I gave hr the lowest number for which I would consider accepting, and he kept going lower and asking why am I not meeting him in the middle. It's like someone tried to buy your car for lower than you were willing to sell and ask you why you won't sell for lower than market rate. All the ceaseless prying into my other options and current job situation really come across invasive and disrespectful.
In many states & cities it is illegal for employers to ask salary history. The law is enacted in part to close the pay disparity that is increasingly problematic in tech, but also to protect workers' rights in general. Bala Cynwyd may not be bound by Philadelphia law, but one would almost expect a company that represents itself as a Philadelphia area company to share its value.
