      Health Care Coordinator Interview

      9 Dec 2009
      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Sunrise Senior Living (Chicago, IL) in Sept 2009

      Interview

The interviewing process is lengthy, comprising of: (1) Group interview with other coordinators (2) 1:1 interview with Executive Director (3) phone interview with area nursing director and phone interview with area executive director. When you walk in the door, they will have you wait in the bistro and offer you tea, etc. They will note how you treat the concierge and the seniors-- do you strike up a conversation with the seniors while you are waiting? Are you pleasant and outgoing? They have a list of targeted questions that start with "give me a word that best describes you" ("compassionate" is valued more than "hard working") "why are you interested in this job" "tell me a little bit about your job history " then it gets more specific " "tell me a time when you were in conflict with a co-worker and how you handled it" or "give me an example of a patient you worked with who was difficult and explain what you did to address the issue" or "tell me about a person who you supervised who was not doing well, what did you do to intervene/coach/help them and what were the results?" They are looking for specific anecdotes.- not generalizations. If you deny having conflict then you won't get the job, they want to see your problem solving skills (and believe me you will need them!) They value "team players" They value flexibility (and you WILL need to be flexible. They look for volunteer work on your resume-- it shows you are dedicated and will go the extra mile without expecting monetary compensation. Also, it seems they have problems with people who live far away-- if you live more than 30 minutes away, you MUST somehow work into the interview (if you even get one) how reliable your transportation is, how the commute is no problem- you love to drive etc.

      Interview

Many interviews. Telephone screen from recruiter. Two in person interviews. Another telephone interview. The process was pretty lengthy, but I was informed that this was the Sunrise way. Overall, the process was a good one. I was able to get all of my questions answered.

The interview process was with the Executive Director, and then with the other department heads. I thought this was well thought out, it allowed me to meet the people I would be working with.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Sunrise Senior Living in Jun 2013

      Interview

First a phone interview with corporate HR, followed by a one on one with the executive director. Both very relaxed and friendly. HR asked detailed questions about my experience and background, along with behavioral questions about handling conflict. The ED did a quick review of my experience, then encouraged me to ask questions, and I had plenty. This was followed by a tour of the community, where I had the opportunity to interact with residents. It felt more like a "get to know you", than a interview. Very relaxed. Next step is to spend a few hours with a HCC at another community. Hopefully, this will give me more details about the actual job role. . No job offer yet, continuing with the interview process.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Just be relaxed and be yourself. Have stories about how you handle conflict ready to answer their questions.
