      Marketing Coordinator Interview

      27 Dec 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Southfield, MI
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Sun Communities (Southfield, MI)

      Interview

Was contacted via email by a recruiter who found me online and wanted to setup an interview. Was instructed that there would be an initial phone interview. This phone interview was approximately an hour and went over a number of detailed questions specific to marketing and past experiences. I was then invited to take an online assessment, where it felt like more than 75% of the questions related specifically to physical violence and drug use. After the completion of the test it seemed like nearly two weeks before I was invited for a second interview in person. The second interview involved meeting with two individuals at the corporate office that headed up different departments and was very comfortable. They expanded on the questions that were asked during my first interview with an HR rep, reviewed my resume, asked some questions related to personality and how I approach challenges, personal opinions, etc - less job-related questions. This interview took approximately 45 minutes. I then had to meet with a senior vice president and spend about 15 minutes listening to him talk about the company and then was told I had to get a drug screen done in order for them to make a final offer and hire me. Took about a week to get that scheduled, completed, and then to get my offer letter from the HR department. Overall it was about a month long process. To break it down: you get a phone interview, take an assessment test, if you pass you get a 2nd interview. I later learned that after the second interview they leave the room for a few minutes. This is when they decide whether or not you're hired. If they come back and discuss an offer and to drug test you then you're in. If they let you know they'll get in touch with you soon and don't immediately schedule the drug test then you're not likely to get an offer at all unless all the other candidates completely bomb.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The unending questions about drugs and violence in the workplace during the assessment were worrisome but it was absolutely not a reflection on the company after I was hired in - just them being careful apparently.
