      Account Executive Interview

      7 Sept 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Stripe (San Francisco, CA) in Apr 2015

      Interview

I had two initial 30-min phone screens, two written assignments, followed by another 30-min phone discussion of my written assignments, and finally 6 on-site interviews. Bottom line: stay away from this company. The product is a mess, their sales team is incompetent, and their hiring process is disrespectful. Employees are rude and aloof. The caliber of the sales team is disappointing, especially for a company that touts itself on hiring candidates with very strong backgrounds. The two written assignments are supposed to only take 2-3 hours, based on Stripe's suggestions. Any candidate who is trying to put their best foot forward will realize these projects take at least 8 to 10 hours, which is absolutely ridiculous. The most frustrating aspect is that you receive absolutely no feedback on your assignment. Finally, the in-person interview is as unprofessional as it gets. Employees act as if they are doing you a service by interviewing you, and do not respect candidates who have taken off day of work to interview. You are slated to interview with 6 employees of the company - of the 6, only 2 showed up and then I was randomly assigned to 4 other candidates who had nothing to do with the role I was interviewing for. It was a Friday, so everyone had gone home, and didn't have time to interview. The first employee that I spoke to was extremely thrilled with herself and the second employee had never worked in sales before, even though he was leading the development of the sales team. I have absolutely nothing complimentary to say about this company, especially its sales team. They have no idea what they are doing. They should be hiring sales engineers as this is a very technical product. They should not be hiring employees who have been teaching elementary soccer for the past 4 years, and then somehow landed on the Stripe sales team.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1) “Stripe.js lets you build your own payment forms while still avoiding PCI requirements." - Explain a technical topic to a broader audience: We'd like to write a separate page that explains this in more detail, targeting the more general audience mentioned above. Please take a crack at writing this up! To be clear, the goal is to explain how it works, not to pitch the benefits 2) Pitch a market segment that Stripe should target using a 3-4 PPT slide presentation.

      Interview

Recruiter screen super positive, but peer account executive interview was surprising. When you hear the product feedback loop is largely informal/personal and relationship based with product managers. I’m curious how the team plans to scale those insights as the head-count grows. It might be the Account Executive wasn't aligned on Stripe.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Stripe (Dublin, Dublin)

      Interview

Stripe's Dublin-based hiring appears rigid, with a strong preference for local Irish candidates—even for specialized EMEA roles. The process inconsistently advances high-volume English-only positions but quickly rejects qualified applicants for EU market-specific ones, suggesting early screening prioritizes local Irish hires over broader merit or fit for the roles focusing on EU market.
