      Assistant Store Manager Interview

      8 Jun 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Starbucks in May 2012

      Interview

I applied on-line using a posting from my university and received a call from a recruiter the next day. We did a very short pre-screening (use this time to make a little conversation and demonstrate that you are a people-person) and we setup a phone interview 2 days later. The phone interviews consisted of 4-5 situational questions, make sure that you elaborate and use examples, (not difficult questions if you have had any work/school history.) After the interview, I was scheduled to meet with the DM a week later. That was the best interview I've ever had! We sat and talked for about 45min. The DM was extremely personable, he told his story and I was asked only about 4 questions. For this interview you really need to go in imagining that you already have the job and make sure that you demonstrate the passion that you have for people and community. Check out the website before your interview, know why you want to work for SBUX and be prepared to smile and laugh a lot. Don't forget to accept the free coffee that they offer you! The background screening took about a week. I got a call as soon as it was done and accepted the offer. All-in-all the process took a little over 2 weeks and I got to pick when my first day would be. Best wishes to you!

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Starbucks

      Interview

Phone interview with a recruiter who expects STAR style answers. The questions are pretty standard and easy to find online, so prep isn’t hard. Honestly, the toughest part, if you’re already an internal employee, is getting the interview in the first place. You really have to show your managers that you’re serious about moving into the role.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Give me an example of a time you solicited feedback and encouraged the sharing of ideas by your time or group of colleagues. (What actions did you take with that information and what was the result?)

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Starbucks

      Interview

For an external hire, pretty normal for an interview. For an internal hire, they basically want you to answer as if you were a robot. They want you to answer by telling a story in the STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result)

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about a time when you consulted or coached a team/ individual to improve results and increase their level of ownership in the outcome
