      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Spectra Logic (Boulder, CO) in Sept 2019

      Interview

Applied online then was contacted very promptly for an initial phone call. It was quick ~20mins, then I had a phone interview scheduled with the hiring manager. This was scheduled quickly and they were very responsive and on top of things through the whole process which I appreciated. Phone interview with the hiring manager was almost an hour, and it went well. He often asked me to explain to him some projects which I listed on my resume so that he could see if he liked the way I verbally communicate technical information. I then was scheduled for a ~3 hour on-site technical interview. I felt that the questions were fair and the people I spoke to were kind and respectful. I appreciate how thorough they are in making sure they hire people with the technical skills they need.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. Here is a code snippet, what will it print out? 2. Here is an oscilloscope, how would you verify that it is giving you correct measurements? 3. You measure a 100kHz 5VPP square wave using a DMM. What would the DMM measure if it was set to DC measurement? AC measurement? Why? Since you are not getting the expected result, how would you debug this?

      Interview

They were just casual conversations about the job’s responsibilities—nothing structured or formal. Even after several rounds, there was no clear direction or outcome, and it was difficult to tell if any real progress was being made at all.
