      Senior Consultant Interview

      2 Apr 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Minneapolis, MN
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Slalom (Minneapolis, MN) in Mar 2021

      Interview

Five interviews over a month. The first was a screening interview, followed by a technical screening. The next two were with senior members of the team I'd be working with. The final interview was with a senior director. The recruiter was excellent along with a majority of the people I interviewed with. Throughout, she was responsive, encouraging, to a point we discussed benefits and compensation as a result of how well the previous four interviews had gone. However, the final interview, while on the surface was perfectly fine, apparently had negated the 4 previous interviews entirely. The individual had a previous relationship with my current organization along with a couple of the other members of her team. She asked me if I knew them and said that the names seemed familiar...and they weren't. Either way, over the next two days, those two people she mentioned were looking me up on LinkedIn. They weren't references nor were they in a position to comment on my experience. Yet after four great interviews and one that seemed to go fairly well, I received a call telling me that the senior director would not hire me along with a lot of lip service that did not at all make sense given the previous month of interviews. All in all, it was a negative experience simply because of the senior director and how references were solicited from individuals who were in no place to comment on me or my experience. I was actually being hired for a role similar to theirs, was told that they had worked out very well, and although I had 12 years more experience, I apparently did not make the cut. I'd strongly recommend making sure you know anyone that may work at this company before you apply because they will be asked about you if there's a relationship established even if they don't know anything about you. It's an unfortunate way to do hiring and really left a very poor taste in my mouth. Despite the positive interactions with others at Slalom including the recruiter, I can't recommend given my experience. While not illegal, it's definitely a poor tactic to ask questions about a candidate without that candidate being aware who's being asked. It may be deemed as petty by some to post this...but I've never experienced the type of recruiting whiplash I experienced with Slalom or the disregard for more traditional hiring etiquette.

      Application

I interviewed at Slalom (Seattle, WA)

      Interview

Not too difficult. All questions were what you would expect. A few rounds with the hiring manager, and others from the team / umbrella which included a case study. The prompt was given with a few different options and fairly simple to deliver.

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Slalom in Oct 2024

      Interview

Four separate 30 minute interviews. Each with a different individual. Each interview was supposed to be focused on one thing like culture or technical skills, but in reality the interviewers did what they wanted.

Very friendly, multiple screeners with people in the local office (over zoom). They'll ask about any consulting experience, but mostly want to get to know you as a person. Just be yourself.
