As someone who has navigated the waters of numerous interview processes in my career, I feel compelled to share my recent experience with Shopify’s hiring process, which was, to put it mildly, deeply unsatisfactory.
Over an intense period of two months, I was subjected to 15 rounds of interviews. This in itself was an excessive and taxing demand, yet I complied, driven by my professional commitment. The chaotic scheduling, characterized by last-minute arrangements and a clear lack of coordination among interviewers, was not only inconvenient but also showed a glaring disrespect for my time.
Post the exhaustive interview rounds, what followed was a staggering silence from Shopify’s end for nearly five months. My attempts to seek updates were met with an unyielding wall of non-response. This level of neglect in communication is not only unprofessional but also deeply discourteous, leaving candidates in a state of unnecessary limbo.
The eventual closure, coming as a terse apology for the delay and an explanation of internal restructuring leading to the role’s elimination, did little to mitigate the frustration accumulated over months. A timely and straightforward communication could have been a more respectful approach.
