      Refinery Operator Interview

      23 Sept 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Martinez, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Shell (Martinez, CA) in Sept 2019

      Interview

The interview digressed into the Union member bashing the sale of their refinery. The interview process itself did not go well. Impending strike was mentioned at least six times in the interview off topic of interview itself . I knew the guy would not be paying attention to my interview. He spent more time rambling about the benefits he was losing with the sale to the new company. The questions were convoluted and they wanted their special format followed exactly or you weren't getting through. This was a location specific interview I don't believe shell itself is like this all over. So if you want to do well study the STAR method they have listed on their website. Even if they had offered me a position I probably would not have been accepted.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

"Tell me about your safety policy"? I asked three clarifying questions about this question as asked. I believe he misread the question and I was out of time before he realize he kind of hang me out to dry. I accept that I could have definitely just misunderstood him but he repeated that exact phrase again.
