      Project Administration Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Satterfield & Pontikes in Feb 2026

      Interview

The interview process actually went well in the beginning. I appreciated the attentiveness of the recruiter and how quick I was able to go in to interview. I initially interviewed for a Contract Administrator position. I was later told I was passed on for the Contract Administrator position and instead was offered a Project Administrator position. I was sent the PA job description to make sure it was acceptable to me, which it was. A day or two later, I was expecting to for the recruiter to set me up for another interview (possibly with a new hiring manager). But instead I was contacted by the recruiter and she confirmed I was being offered the job and no additional interviews were needed. I was so excited to get back to work! The recruiter then asked for my references which I had plenty of. But for some reason they only wanted to speak to the last person I reported to. This was difficult due to my previous employment being a small construction company and my last position being one in leadership. The recruiter knew this as well as those I had interviewed with. Instead the recruiter said I could provide references for anyone I reported to in the past even the job I had before my last. So I reached out to those individuals to get updated contact information and provided it as quickly as I could. One of the references out of the four I provided (2 coworkers and 2 past managers), only one manager was contacted. After that the recruiter was no longer attentive and I had to chase down information about what was next in the process. I was told (after having to call, text and leave messages, that "management" decided to pass on me because of my manger references not being my most recent employer. So they offered me a job and then withdrew the offer, not because of what my references said but because they didn't like who they were. Who does that? What type of company offers someone a job and then passes on a highly skilled and experienced applicant because they don't like the references the applicant provided? References are not and should not be the end all for evaluating someone's standing value or what they contribute to the position and the company. Basing someone's livelihood on speaking to people you've never met and probably never will; and then rescinding an offer for employment because you don't like who those people are or how they know applicant is excessively petty to me. I think I was used a "guinea pig" for some new rule they wanted to establish but had only been established with me. I say that because the recruiter came across as though what she was telling me was new to her as well. So, if you're interested in working for a company that puts people through that sort of torment, have at it and good luck! I definitely will not be applying again. This was the absolute worst experience I've had during my job search.
