      Content Development Editor Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Sage

      Interview

The interview process involved 3 interviews and 1 written assignment. I completed the process and was a finalist but was not selected. I was invited to stay in touch for future open positions. The following year, there was another opening for the position, and I emailed the person who interviewed me letting him know I would apply again. He told me they were looking for someone with more experience for this position, in spite of the fact that the job posting was identical to the one the previous year and I was qualified then based on the job requirements. He said I should apply for an entry-level position, which paid paltry wages and was geared toward recent college graduates instead, even though I met the qualifications for the job posting and had several years of professional experience. In other words, they want more experience but don't want to pay for it. The whole experience was insulting, demeaning, and a waste of my time.

      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at Sage (Washington, DC) in May 2017

      Interview

To be frank, way too many interviews for a mid-level position (three in total, one hour each). Met separately with HR representative, hiring manager, and acquisitions editors with whom I'd be working. Everyone was pleasant and easy to talk to, however. Another complaint: I've interviewed several times for different positions at the company, and it always takes forever to hear back on their final decisions (2-3 weeks at least). It's consistent enough that I have to imagine it's just their way of doing things.

      Question 1

How would you interact with customers (e.g., adopters) in the development process, aside from reviews?
