      Application Developer Interview

      30 Oct 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at SEQ Technology in Oct 2020

      Interview

In the beginning, the interviewer was actually 20 minutes late in calling me. When I got the call and started the interview process, the interviewer told me that they were looking for developers for one of their clients, and she doesn't know the specifics on the project that they have to work on, and the actual requirements. She just said that they are looking for someone who knows a programming language, which is just a basic requirement. The interviewer asked me about my background, and I went ahead and explained about myself, my work experience, and then I also went ahead and discussed about the projects I had worked on, since she also asked that. She then told me that I can be subjected to a programming test, which I was alright with. She also asked me about the industry I plan to get into. After giving my response, she told me that I'm not fit with what they are looking for, because they are looking for someone who knows a programming language, even though my resume tells her all the programming languages I know, and I even discussed about the projects that uses them. And just like that, my interview was cut short. She never asked me if I had any questions... To be honest, this interview was incredibly disappointing. First they were late in calling me, then she had the audacity to just end the interview early with a ridiculous reason of "not knowing a programming language", which is really false. I do know Python, C, C++, Java, and many more. And the projects I had worked on, which I would argue requires quite a lot of effort. Like building websites and compilers. Honestly, it made me feel like the interviewer has absolutely no idea what she is saying. I've been accused of not knowing what a programming language is. It's more like she doesn't know what that is, and doesn't know what some of these software engineering projects actually account for. So a basic HR person that doesn't know the actual field itself, and has to blindly judge a person's skills that are specific to that field. Who knows how many potentially great candidates they had filtered out. I would've been fine if they had a valid reason to reject me, but the reason they gave is absolutely pathetic. I'm in this field for so many years, and I studied many different programming languages, and I worked on many projects. I've been dedicated a lot of my spare time to continue studying and doing more in this field, because it is my passion. And now, I got rejected because "I don't know any programming language." It made me feel dumb, and it pretty much ruined my day.
