      Interview

The interview was easy. It was a video call where they explained the role in detail. They asked about my experience and background, and described what the job involves. The process was straightforward and the interviewers were friendly and professional.

      Interview

I’ve never written a review about an interview that didn’t go well, but this experience was humiliating; I’m writing this because I want other applicants to have the awareness that I didn’t. I also want to be clear that, during my interview, the interviewers were professional and one in particular was pleasant and supportive. Emails from a member of the IXL team were also agreeable, efficient and professional. Unfortunately, the recruitment process itself could be improved: - The job ad seems to prioritize luring people in over providing accurate information. The wage isn’t advertised (it’s lower than you’d expect) and can’t be negotiated. Pay increases are only made after two years. You don’t get paid for the two-week training that you must complete. - The ad specified a daily timeframe for tutors to be available to work. But, at the initial phone call stage, I was asked if I would be available during a different timeframe. - In preparation for the main interview, you’re sent an email asking you to create a 10-minute lesson (using slides) for a beginner student. The presentation cue wasn’t worded well and therefore didn’t make full sense. This caused confusion and doesn’t reflect well. - During the interview, you’re asked to do another mock lesson where the interviewers provide you with a slide as a teaching tool. It makes the aforementioned presentation (which takes time for the candidate to create) feel redundant. - Following an unsuccessful interview outcome, I asked for feedback. I haven’t had any reply and have given up expecting one. I feel humiliated and undervalued by the process and would advise any potential candidate to ask as many questions as possible before the interview itself. Get as much clarity about what is expected (from the role and the interview) as you can.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Rosetta Stone

      Interview

After submitting my application online, they emailed me regarding my application to confirm my TESOL/TEFL certification. I confirmed this and they asked me to submit another application to the position that incorporated this qualification. I was scheduled for an online interview which went very well. After the interview, I was then informed by the recruiter that I had to submit an application a third time due to the fact that my previous applications were going to close soon. The fact that I had to keep applying after the 1 on 1 interview and tech check was frustrating. Even after multiple applications submitted and a lot of back and forth between the recruiter, I wasn't hired in the end because the recruiter did not properly read my qualifications (salary input and location). Their reasoning was, "not be able to meet your minimum wage requirements for where you reside." The recruiter apologized for the lack of foresight but I was extremely transparent in my resume, cover letter, and interview of my current location. The overall pay they could offer me was $11 anyways and so, the process was not worth it for this amount of pay. Disappointed at the lack of attention to detail and the overall waste of time.

They asked me to teach a topic to the interviewer within a 5-minute window and provided me with the teaching prompt.
