I applied online to Code4Life Academy Junior DevOps Engineer position. On the next week after my application I received an email from internal recruiter asking if it was OK for me to have a phone screening on the next day between 2 and 3 p.m. I agreed and on the next day was waiting for the call. The recruiter called me about 2:30 p.m. She was pretty nice and kind with excellent English. Unfortunately, the quality of the phone call itself wasn't that clear, it was loud enough but lacking high frequencies, sometimes fuzzy, abrupt, and that created some difficulties for me to clearly understand what she was saying. So I had to re ask her about what she said a couple of times. Our conversation was no more than 20 minutes. The recruiter asked me where I heard about this position, why I want to relocate to Poland, my motivation for this position, previous experience as a developer and sysadmin, what is Deployment, Agile, code testing, my preferences towards working either in Warsaw or Poznan and my availability. I too asked her a couple of my questions from which I get a few short insights and concerns about current affairs withing the company. Moreover, by recruiter's barely distinctive changes in intonation of her voice when she was answering my question about expected qualities of people for this position, I became almost certain of how she rated me for this position already and I anticipated the (negative) outcome. Before the end of our conversation she told me that decision will be taken within a week and if I will not receive anything from her after that time then I should understand that I wasn't chosen. After a week past the call I received an email from the recruiter thanking me for my participation and telling me they decided to move forward with other candidate. I consider this as a kind and professional gesture on her part because many recruiters nowadays tend to skip such a simple thing leaving candidates in doubts. Although I wasn't selected I consider this a positive experience and thank the recruiter for her job. As for myself, I learned I had to be prepared better.
