      Marketing Director Interview

      22 Dec 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Winston-Salem, NC
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Reynolds American (Winston-Salem, NC) in Dec 2020

      Interview

Mostly standard behavioral interview with some focus on technical abilities/successes. 2 hours split into 2 groups with 2 people in each group, done over video. Overall they were cordial and friendly. It was a mixed and odd bag, part of the fault on me. I was already beyond exhausted due to my work hours the night before and 4am wake up the day of (calls with foreign markets) but put on my brightest most awake face. One person in the first group seemed bored and tired off the bat (looking around, slouched, puffing on a vape pen), which threw threw me off from the start and made me wonder if I was wasting my time. In the next group, I was informed of the role they had decided for me (until the interview, I was told no specific role, just 'marketing'). It turned out to be quite a huge departure from my expertise, and again I was thrown off, my mind a spinning sleepy blur, wondering what was going on since my resume didn't jibe with what they decided on as a role - I focus on global innovation and marketing, this was suddenly for 'hyper local marketing activation'. Just wasn't meant to be, but I will say they do seem like a great and smart bunch, who live by the values they profess. Hope they get the right candidate.

      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Reynolds American (Winston-Salem, NC) in Apr 2015

      Interview

Screening interview with HR rep. Phone interview with hiring manager (VP level). Followed by a 4 hour panel interview with team members, peers and cross-functional staff. Each team of 2 interviewers had a "focus" -- Leadership, Background, Personality, Skills/Experience. There was also a presentation. Interviewees were given 30 minutes to put together an analysis of a business opportunity. They provided a one-pager summary of the "opportunity." Mine was for hand-held gaming.
