I applied online. I interviewed at Redfin in Oct 2020
Interview
Recruiter reached out first to scope out background and qualifications. Next was a 1hr phone call with the hiring manager for more of a technical background.
One single coding problem which was a for loop. The rest was more security related questions.
After that, which felt like it went well, I was given a take home assignment which consisted of creating a complete user authentication API using best security practices and methods. I'm usually against these on principle but figured I could use the practice. The instructions said it should take about 3 hours but I spent a solid 12 if I am honest.
Turned it in and heard back a few days later that I wasn't picked for the onsite. Real shame as it seemed like a waste of my time. However, everyone was nice and friendly, and the recruiter was excellent.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Redfin (Seattle, WA) in Jan 2021
Interview
Pretty standard coding interview with other security related questions. Manager doing the interview was laid back and made it easy to relax and keep going even if I tripped up.
