      Trainee Patent Attorney Interview

      3 Feb 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Reddie & Grose (London, England) in Nov 2019

      Interview

Applied in late September for graduate trainee patent attorney role. Lengthy initial application process involved detailed listing of each exam result throughout my entire degree. Was invited to add more to my application a few days later. Around 2 weeks after this I received an invite to an interview in their head office in Whitechapel, London. Interview involved a written descriptive exercise of an object (can opener in my case), a chat with the HR officer about the job, salary, bonuses etc., and then a competency interview with a partner and the HR officer. Standard questions about situations of leadership, adapting to situations etc., as well as being asked to explain projects undertaken in my degree (masters thesis). Was invited back for a 2nd interview via phone call around 2 weeks later for the Cambridge office for the technical interview. Technical interview comprised of some brief questions about the previous interview and again, my masters thesis. Intense questioning over written work from previous interview, followed by more in-depth questions about other technologies related to the role and how you think they work etc.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Reddie & Grose (London, England) in Nov 2024

      Interview

I had two interviews with Reddie & Grose. The first was online and was mainly about my experiences and skills I had developed from these experiences. There was also a 30 minute written task at the start of the interview to describe a household item. I heard back very quickly about the second interview (within an hour of completing the first), and was invited to the London office. Here I had an interview with two partners. This was more focused on my masters project and what it entailed, as well as more about my experiences. They briefly looked at my written description but I wasn't asked much on it. I heard back less than a week later. Overall the process was very streamlined and smooth and everyone was extremely friendly throughout!
