      Digital Marketing Specialist Interview

      21 Oct 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Radius Recycling

      Interview

I got an email a few days after applying from the recruiting manager asking me to call her between a window of time on a Friday. I thought that was a bit weird as recruiters usually call me when doing a phone interview, but okay. I gave her a time within that slot in which to expect my phone call. So fast forward to the interview day, I call and apparently she was busy and away from the office at that time. She also had thought we talked already that day which was a bit weird. Um, okay, fine. She asked if we could talk later, but I had another meeting to run into as I am currently employed, so I am relying on lunch hours and breaks to make these calls. I told her I'd give her a call on my next break and it went straight to voicemail. I guess she didn't get the call until the end of the workday and by that time it was too late to return the call. In the meantime, I'm running in and out of my office and sitting in the car taking up my lunches and breaks just hoping to get ahold of this recruiter. Fast forward to the following week, I'm wondering if I'll hear from the recruiter who happens to call while I'm in a meeting, so I return her call on break...voicemail. A while after, she calls back, so I...again have to run outside to my car and take a break again in order to take the call. We finally have a chance to talk and I honestly felt caught off guard and unprepared because I'm just trying to even get a hold of the interviewer just to get to the next interview process. I had notes prepared and everything for our interview that was supposed to be on Friday. Why not just schedule an interview time instead of wasting people's time with incessant phone tag? I was honestly baffled by the amount of disorganization. So they end up deciding to schedule a phone interview with the Director of Marketing for me, which I had the following day. At this point, the recruiter seems to have forgotten my name and calls me by my last name instead. Contrary to their initial job posting, it sounded like they were more looking for an SEO Strategist/Manager vs a rounded Digital Marketing Specialist. They asked me all about PPC , SEO, Analytics and Google Ads, but nothing really about any of the other job requirements like content creation or social media. The Director of Marketing also kept cutting me off while I was trying to explain my experience and randomly transferred me to another person to interview me by phone and then disappeared after our call. The recruiting manager said she'd let me know the day after the interview whether or not I move forward in the process and not surprisingly, that email never came. Instead, I got a canned response from Indeed about the company not moving forward with my application. I also noticed they re-posted the job listing with a slightly different job title, salary and position requirements. In the new posting, they highlight the SEO and Google Ad/Analytics being a core piece of the description. It seems like they were kind of uncertain about it before or they didn't get the turnout they would have liked from the previous posting. I noticed they also added Google Ad Certification onto their requirements, coincidentally after I volunteered that I had just gotten my Google Ad Certification. They had asked how I'm staying on top of new trends and that was my offer. I guess they realized they might need to add that in the job description. Their new ad also notes urgently hiring. Perhaps they can hire someone urgently if they get their act together with the disorganization of the company. You can't even reach someone to get your initial phone screen done.
