      Front-End Developer Interview

      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Quizlet (San Francisco, CA) in Nov 2013

      Interview

Met the team at a university career event. Was contacted about 2 weeks later asking if I could come in for an in-person interview. The interview wasn't anything too difficult: 1. Met with the UX designer for what seemed like mainly a culture-fit test. We talked about things on my resume and discussed web apps/mobile apps that I use regularly. 2. Next was a technical interview by one of the software developers. I got asked a variety of MySQL questions. (given two tables, give the query that returns...) 3. Another technical interview. This one went pretty badly because I'm not sure the interviewer was very awake...we talked about projects I had done and he asked me a lot about the Quizlet product and how I would improve things. After that we had, what seemed to be a really informal interview where he gave me some CSS and asked me to style something for him. Unfortunately, I was entirely unclear what he was asking of me since the conversation was, at one moment, about how I would design something, then the next moment he was trying to ask me how to do it. I was pretty confused for the first 10 minutes, trying to figure out what exactly was being asked of me. I was given no HTML, so I was unaware of the structure of the code (since all I had was CSS). Overall, it was really unclear what I had to do and eventually we just ran out of time. Everyone at Quizlet was extremely nice and I really wanted to work here...guess I'll just have to apply again sometime in the future...

      Question 1

Nothing too difficult. Practice MySQL queries (very basic ones...). Definitely read up on Javascript and prototypal inheritance.
