      Machine Learning Engineer Interview

      12 Aug 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Croydon, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Proxify (Croydon, England) in Aug 2025

      Interview

The recruiter contacted me, took two weeks The process was awful. Are you sure whether you are hiring leetcoders or machine learning engineers? It was two stage process and each process are same except the fact that the last one is read out by interviewer from third party and no further help is provided After technical assesment, you are invited to this weird second stage which is live coding and 3 ML questions. This stage is same as the first one and unfortunately unless all test cases passes, they do not let you to pick up to second task. The interviewer unneccesarily did not let me answer the question although he contradicted himself that we can come back. For the first ML part he told me the time is running up and we need to go on with second one. For the second part, he has not followed the same methodolgy and caused me to spend too much on first task although we could have switch to next one. I assure you his questions in ML was absoultely meaningless!! I was already explaining the reason why we should L1 regularisation should be chosen depending his use case but he asked why not L2 although it relies in the answer! The process did not evaluate real-world ML engineering skills beyond a handful of narrow questions, and did not allow for deeper technical discussion I do not advise this company for senior devs. You need to prepare at least one month leet code challenges, but no useful for real world scenarios

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Regularisation selection of multiple features but few on informative data, ROC/AUC for binary classification and imbalance dataset

      Machine Learning Engineer Interview

      9 Nov 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Proxify in Sept 2023

      Interview

To start with, the job ad contains misleading information. This is a company that pays you *by the hour* if and when you land a job via their platform. I scored high on both technical tests, and received an offer which would have required me to work 50 hours per week (assuming I had a job every day of the year, which is impossible with contracts) in order to achieve the salary stated in the job posting. You also need to provide all your own equipment. The recruiter was very friendly, very helpful and answered all my questions. However they repeatedly declined to tell me examples of companies available via their platform and instead deferred me to Glassdoor (where I could not find that information). The process itself consisted of two online technical rounds (leetcode-style). The first was completely automated, the second was with a human but was also completely automated (the human just read out the questions and recorded my answers without being able to say anything more). On the plus side, the process was fast.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Some simple algorithm problems (can't remember exactly what they were), solved by a for loop or a nested for loop. Questions about their time and space complexity. Basic theoretical ML questions (explain and give examples of regularization, how to do classification on imbalanced data, etc).
