The most unprofessional interview I have ever experienced.
I submitted my resume to the Executive Director and via the website for a part-time position. I received a call and scheduled an interview with the executive director. I was instructed to provide 3 references, preferably former supervisors. I prepared accordingly.
I arrived on time and waited 20 minutes for a young woman to come get me and guide me to a conference room. Upon entering the conference room, it was a complete mess with mountains of clutter and paperwork spread out across most of the table and barely any lights on. I was introduced to another young woman, who was on her tablet watching/listening to what sounded like a webinar or podcast. It remained on at a distracting volume throughout the short interview. Neither of the interviewers was the Executive Director I was told I would meet, nor did they mention their title/positions within Project Self-Sufficiency, why I was meeting with them instead, or what their part was within the hiring team. There were no additional details given about the company, their mission, or the position, and after a few comments, it was obvious they never read my resume and did not know I applied for a specific position, what type of position I was seeking, or that I currently work two jobs. The questions were generic and not specific to any position. At times, both were engrossed with other papers scattered about, their mobile device or whatever was streaming from the tablet. Making it difficult for me to answer the simplest questions because the lack of active listening and background noise was distracting and frustrating.
I was eventually asked to provide my references, so I handed them to one of the interviewers. It had two current employer references and one previous. I work two jobs, but the one would very likely replace me quickly if they knew I was looking elsewhere. I let them know that was the case. The interviewer looked at it and stated they were supposed to be current employers. I replied that two of the three are, but for my one position, I can't allow them to contact them at this time. She said rather rudely, it doesn't matter if two are current, she needs a reference from the other employer. I was then told they were keeping this short and would call if they decided to move forward, and then dismissed. I was not given any opportunity to ask questions, and when I expressed that I applied for a specific position, they disregarded my statements.
I only just had the interview today. If I were to receive a call to proceed, I would decline the offer.
